PEDIATRIC FIRST AID CPR AED CLASS AGENDA

1. Before Giving Care: You will learn to recognize a medical emergency and to know when to call 911 and when it is not necessary.
2. Assessment: Checking a conscious person for injuries. Gathering relevant medical information from a victim.
3. Choking: You will learn to use abdominal thrusts (also known as the Heimlich Maneuver) and back blows to help someone who is choking. You will also learn to respond if someone is choking and becomes unconscious.
4. CPR: You will learn to do CPR using Prestan feedback manikins. Lights indicate if a student is pushing deep enough and pushing at the correct space to deliver quality CPR. Covers CPR for adults, children and infants.
5. AED: Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are an important component of performing CPR — AEDs deliver a shock to help the heart to beat normally again and are now designed for the public to use. Our AED trainers are just like real AEDs — you will listen as the AED talks you through attaching pads to the CPR manikin, analyzing for a shockable heart rhythm and delivering a simulated shock.
6. Sudden Illness: Recognizing and respond to shock, heart attack, asthma, anaphylaxis (allergic reaction), using an EpiPen, diabetic emergencies, seizures, fainting and stroke.
7. Injuries: Bleeding, using a tourniquet, burns, muscle, bone and joint injuries, head, neck and spinal injuries.
8. Environmental Emergencies: heat and cold-related emergencies, poisoning, bites and stings.
